Vineyards

Today, Mikrosvín Mikulov operates 520 ha of its own vineyards, with only a part, mainly from the Mikulov region, being processed by Mikrosvín itself for its own use. All wines are made exclusively from our own raw material, which is harvested on twelve vineyard lines in the municipalities of Mikulov, Dolní Dunajovice, Perná, Březí and Dobré Pole. Our vineyards of Železná, Goldhamer and Purmice are the absolute top.

Terroir

The Mikulov region. From the wine-growing point of view, this is a phenomenon not only because of the high summer temperatures, but mainly thanks to Pálava - the outmost outcrop of the limestone White Carpathians set on the edge of the floodplain forests of the lower Dyje river region. Today, this a protected landscape area. The southern slopes of the Pálava, protected from the cold winds coming down the Dyje-Svratka rivers valley from Brno, are among the best vineyard in the Mikulov region and in the Czech Republic in general.

The calcium rich soil limits the growth of the vines focusing on their quality, giving the wines from the Mikulov region a unique character of a real spiciness and density. We produce some wines with a distinctive fruity character. The overripe grapes are used to produce wines with distinctive honey taste, full-bodied, dense and mineral, with a botrytic nature. The Welschriesling, alongside which Pinot Blanc and especially the related Chardonnay stand out as the premium grape varieties in these vineyards. In recent years, some local new varieties have also been successfully produced – e.g. Pálava, Aurelius and the foreign Kerner variety, which is particularly suitable for calcareous soils.

The clay soils of Dolní Dunajovice, Březí and Dobré Pole have long been dominated by Welschriesling, Veltliner and - on less suitable parts - Müller Thurgau. In addition, as vineyard slopes of these municipalities rise above the valley stream of cool air, they have always produced excellent wines of the Riesling and Tramin varieties.

„Grand Cru“

„Grand Cru“

Železná – Goldhamer – Purmice. Three vineyards, three jewels, which we guard and care for with respect for viticultural traditions and nature. We cultivate a very limited, at the same time typical varietal composition, yet the phenomenon called Welschriesling dominates here.

Perná

Perná

The municipality of Perná is located in the Břeclav county in the South Moravian Region. It is approximately 8 kilometres away from the town of Mikulov. The municipality is located at the foot of the Pavlov Hills. The greater part of the cadastre is part of the Pálava protected landscape area and it also includes the National Nature Reserve Děvín and Tabulová mountain. About 200 hectares of vineyards have been planted in the municipality, while further planting and expansion of the cellar economy is still in progress, often in combination with accommodation both for Czech and foreign tourists. They are attracted by the beautiful nature and the numerous cultural monuments in the vicinity and of course, by the excellent wine.

"Železná"

The vineyard is located on gentle slopes of the plateau right below the peaks of Pálava. Its location is characterized by a southern exposure, along with a higher altitude. The soil here is heavier and non-heated. It consists of modal pararendzina, i.e. soil formed by the weathering of calcareous carbonate rocks. It is a nutrient-poor soil with a high content of active lime. Wines from this vineyard are unmistakable, distinctly mineral and structured.

The prime location produces exceptional wines of the André and Welschriesling varieties.

"Goldhamer"

The vineyard is situated on the south-western slope of Pálava in the middle part of the hillside. It is therefore a sloping area with a thin soil profile, which is made up of a weak layer of carbonate black soil, sometimes interspersed with skeletal pararendzina. This means a nutrient-poor soil with a high content of active lime. The wines from this vineyard are strongly mineral with a layered structure.

We produce wines of the Welschriesling and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties from grapes produced in this location. Both Goldhamer and Železná used to be winegrowing sites, from where wine was delivered to the court of Maria Theresa.

Březí

The municipality of Březí is located in the Břeclav county in the South Moravian Region. It belongs to the Mikulov wine sub-region and its vineyards are among the warmest places in South Moravia. The original name Bratelsbrunn is a combination of the German words Bratels from Braten (meaning roast) and Brunn from Brunnen (well or spring). Our attitude

Our attitude

We use two premises. First, that the vineyard and the raw material it provides is a gift. And that a superior wine ca only be made from a superior raw material. Second, that with every wine we make, we have the ambition to make it the wine of „our“ or your life. So, it is absolutely clear that our approach to nature, to the vineyard, to the practices, to the training and to the presentation of the wine is fundamental, crucial and uncompromising.

Our philosophy of viticulture has been based on a low load on the vines, a gentle approach with a maximum reduction of chemical inputs. Everything begins and ends in a vineyard. The special approach of the people is extremely important for the production of our wines. Our vineyards are often located at places, which are not well accessible for machinery in bad weather. This is where the irreplaceable human hands come in again. All the grape material is gently harvested at the appropriate time and transported to the cellars for further processing. Again, it should be noted that the best grapes only are harvested by hand! Using small crates to avoid the slightest undesirable damage to the grapes. The grapes are then processed with the utmost care. The production is based on the gravity approach.
